The King is Dead?

Wed Jul 1, 2009, 9:24 PM
Are you fucking kidding me? For the last twenty or so years of his life, Michael Jackson was a human punchline, a perennial cornucopia of pedophile jokes, sexual ambiguity, shock-photos, and urban legend. Where the fuck was all this "King of Pop" idolatry when he was still alive?

I liked Michael's music but I'm not a super-fan or anything. But when I started seeing all this nostalgic bullshit sprouting up, I was like "What the fuck is this? Am I the only one who remembers how big a bunch of assholes everyone was to this guy for the last two decades?" And hell, maybe he was a pedophile creep, I don't know.

I just think that maybe if the media had expressed a little more of this Michael-crush when he was still alive, he wouldn't have been stressed out and doped up to the point of exploding his heart. Of course he was always really troubled obviously so an early end probably wasn't too unexpected.

I don't mean to belittle the tragedy of a man's untimely passing, but the outright hypocrisy of the mainstream media makes me sick. Dying might have been the best thing to happen to Michael Jackson in a long long time.

Didn't mean to offend the Michael fans out there, but you guys have gotta understand where I'm coming from right? Why is it that sometimes a guy's gotta croak before the world can stop laughing at him and show some appreciation? I guess we're all just a bunch of fucking cannibals in the end, because our laughing at the stupid jokes put him in the grave just as surely as the unclever douche bags who made the jokes in the first place.

And it wouldn't upset me so much if the majority of people simply said, "Good, another freak down the drain," at least that wouldn't be hypocritical. And I have heard some of that on the street. This is probably the same argument some people brought up when Marilyn Monroe, James Dean, Elvis Presley, Tupac, Biggie, and whatever other big famous people died. Well the lesson to learn here is, never become famous.

Well, most of his DIE HARD FANS actually still expressed their respect for the King of pop when he was alive. Hell, i saw countless people in the internet always defend him against all this assholes you mention that somehow forgot their assholery just because he died.

The thing is, society is fucked up, being an asshole to a celebrity that the media designates as the target of the day is OKAY! he is the asshole, but when said celebrity dies, making fun of him makes YOU the asshole, because he is dead.

The media is a soul-less beast, they only care about having a story, when he was alive, flinging dirt as his direction was all the rage because that got them money, now that he died, honor shows and memorial crap is what gets them money, so they go for it. It is so fucking sad and evil, it really sickens me.

I dont knwo about all but Tupac and Biggie did become much bigger dead than alive so yeah your argument is very solid. I mean when they were alive people called them thugs. Now they are visionaries

It makes me sad that Sky Saxon (The Seeds) died the same day, and no-one really said anything. He was awesome.

As for Michael, I have (as I did before his death) a lot of respect for him as an artist and for the doors he opened for other musicians, but have always been (and remain) fairly indifferent to him (though I'll always think of "Thriller" and "Bad" as great records). Oh well...

It's true. And Elvis went from being a fat guy in a jumpsuit to a GOD after he died, so that's a definite promotion.

I wonder how many younger kids even knew that Michael Jackson was a musician. You mean that weird guy with no nose used to be a famous musician? It's a real damn shame he couldn't have just gone on with his career and continued to make music.

I'll bet the Farrah Fawcet fans are pissed off that Michael Jackson decided to die the same day she did. That was pretty big news until he bit it.

Very true! She seems to have been completely eclipsed by the media circus that has been Michael Jackson's death. You know the news folk and Jackson's record company are reveling in it, though. Fuck, I'd almost be surprised if one of his records didn't hit #1 in the coming weeks.

I hear you there. He didn't have the most happy of live even during his hayday, if you remember right. He was so pushed into stardom by his asshole dad that he never had the chance to be a kid, much less grow up to a respectable--and respecting--adult. Personally I don't blame him for falling the way he did. (Most people mocked MJ. Me? I just felt sorry for him.)

Most people only WISH they'd get this much respect when their times comes. Most people around here can only look forward to "LAWLZ" for their eulogy.

But anyway, Picture a Michael Jackson in his 30s-40s who didn't go that route. And who got a second Triller-like album to boot. Wait, He might include some songs where he pulls an Eminem on his dad. Wait again, I might've bought that song for a dollar.
