I don't update on this page much anymore but for some reason I felt like talking about the music in kids' shows.

Since our son is almost two, I've been watching an awful lot of children's programming. A lot of it is pretty watchable, as far as baby shows go. I'm OK with most of the Disney Junior and Nick Junior shows. I particularly like the ones with good songs in them. My favorites in that category are Bubble Guppies and Goldie and Bear. Those two have really great music in them. The Lion Guard has some good songs too. Although I don't think it really belongs in the same category as the others, the updated Alvin and the Chipmunks on Nickelodeon  occasionally has some catchy tunes too, but it's hard to make out most of the lyrics because of the squeaky voices. Sophia the First is pretty good too.

I used to wonder why cartoons didn't have cool songs in them anymore like they did in the 80s and 90s, but after we had Trevor and started putting on the Junior channels for him to watch, I discovered that cartoons do still have good music, it's just all on the really young kids' shows. Goldie and Bear and Miles from Tomorrow Land on Disney Junior kinda remind me of the old Disney Afternoon shows like Gummie Bears and Wuzzles, so I kinda have a soft spot for them.

My wife and I went to see Disney's The Little Mermaid at the Raleigh Memorial Theater last night, and it was amazing! Some of the main characters were portrayed by the original Broadway performers while others were filled in by other professionals and some local student talent. It was a really fun show. They added a lot to the original movie storyline and made a lot of new songs for the play. If you're a fan of the movie and get a chance to see the play, I suggest you check it out.
